Art Market

Art Stage Jakarta 2017

In 2017, ART STAGE Jakarta includes a stellar line-up of leading Indonesian and international galleries; cutting-edge art projects by Indonesian, Southeast Asian and European artists; events and activities that go beyond the fairground and the launch of an art award recognising the very best of the Indonesian art world.

Underscoring this year’s Fair programme is ART STAGE Jakarta’s commitment to and support of Indonesian art, its role as the bridge between the global art world and Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest and most dynamic contemporary art scene, and its position as a matchmaker bringing the diverse and distinct Southeast Asian art scenes together to create a stronger and more united Southeast Asian art market. ART STAGE Jakarta takes place at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City from 11 to 13 August 2017.

“The success of ART STAGE Jakarta’s initial edition last year, and the accompanying confidence and trust in the seriousness and professionalism of the Fair, has given us the strength and an even stronger belief in our mission to blaze the trail for Indonesian art at home and internationally. With this in mind, we have, this year, created an art fair that is not only bigger in size in terms of the number of participating international and local galleries, but also in terms of content, reach and geography. Through the many activities and events and the creation of an art week in Jakarta, we will continue to contribute to Jakarta’s growing reputation as an art capital. Together with our partners and the city of Jakarta, we will make a mark for Indonesia on the global art map,” says Lorenzo Rudolf, Founder and President, ART STAGE Jakarta.

Attesting to ART STAGE Jakarta’s professionalism, high standards and quality, 60 of the best galleries from Indonesia, Southeast Asia and the world converge in Jakarta for the second edition of the Fair, making ART STAGE Jakarta truly Indonesia’s international premium art fair. Of the participating galleries, 24 are from Indonesia. The Fair presents 36 international galleries from Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States of America.

In addition to several returning galleries, many international and Indonesian galleries will be participating in ART STAGE Jakarta for the very first time and making their debut in Indonesia. Among the first-time exhibitors that will be presenting world-class artworks are Arario Gallery, from Korea; Tomio Koyama, ShugoArts, Gallery Tamenega, Whitestone Gallery from Japan; Edouard Malingue Gallery, Parkview Art Hong Kong, Puerto Roja from Hong Kong; Chalk Horse from Australia. Art:1 from Jakarta as well as Ark Galerie and Sangkring Art Space from Yogyakarta will also have their first presentations at the Fair. (Refer to Annex A for full Exhibitor List)

As a fair that strongly supports and fosters multi-disciplinary art, ART STAGE Jakarta will host a special interactive art project by up-and-coming Indonesian collective Double Deer made up of Indonesian artists and musicians who work at the intersection of art, music and science. Their installations titled Transform and Undisplay bring together these different elements that reveal the cutting edge of art, science and music.
