BY Shirley Nwangwa

Yasuaki Ishizaka has been appointed chairman & managing director for Sotheby’s Japan. He will start in early September.

Ishizaka was the president and managing director of Sotheby’s Japan from 2005 to 2014, when he left to run a private art advisory enterprise under his own name. In his new role, Ishizake will head the Tokyo-based satellite of the auction house with an aim to help steer business development efforts across Japan.

In a statement, Kevin Ching, CEO of Sotheby’s Asia, said, “We are delighted to welcome Aki back to Sotheby’s. Not only is Aki an art world veteran with over three decades in the field, he also has extensive experience in both auction and private sales businesses. His expertise and deep relationships with collectors will be extremely valuable for our further growth in Japan.”
